Frequently Asked Question (FAQ #3)

What is the difference between the current cables and the new Type C cables?

Answer:

The new cables offer the same USB to Serial function as our popular range of cables and use the same popular FTDI chipset and USB drivers. Installing and using them is easy just like our other cables.
The main difference is that they use the new USB Type C connector instead of the original type A connector to connect to your computer. Many new computers use Type C for their USB sockets and in some cases new computers now have only type C ports.
Our type C cables can plug straight into the computer without needing an extra USB Type C to USB Type A adapter. USB Type C can also be connected either way up for added convenience. They have different versions with logic level/TTL UART, RS232 and Hi-Speed versions for UART or SPI/I2C/JTAG.
